Who we are

Our mission

We believe real change comes from the ground up. We know that a small-but-committed critical mass of activists can not only transform society, but change the world. That’s why we recruit and mobilize people to become powerful activists, providing the skills, campaigns and resources to push for ambitious climate action and high-level policies that accelerate a just transition to clean energy, and a sustainable low-carbon and resilient future for all Africans.

Alongside these efforts, our dynamic communications initiatives connect climate and behavioral science with the emotional power of compelling stories, raising awareness and inspiring action in online audiences everywhere.

Our values

As the Africa branch of The Climate Reality Project, and a programme at Food & Trees for Africa, we draw on the values of both organisations.

The Climate Reality Project

We are committed to building a more just and equitable world, one where all voices are heard and respected regardless of race, religion, color, national origin, sex, sexual orientation, gender identity, age, or physical ability.

We recognize that a diverse and inclusive movement is critical to solving the climate crisis, and that to build this winning coalition, we must ensure that those directly impacted – particularly those who have been excluded in the past – are at the centre of the movement for change. While the climate crisis manifests on a global scale, we acknowledge that indigenous peoples, low-income families, people of colour, and other historically marginalized groups represent frontline communities who experience harmful climate impacts first and worst.

To live our values of a truly sustainable future for all, we must commit to understanding and undoing the historic injustices which contribute to this reality and, in our solutions, address systemic inequities.

At The Climate Reality Project, we believe that equity, fairness, and the fully voiced engagement of frontline communities most impacted by climate change are essential components of any enduring climate solution and that to solve the climate crisis, we must pursue a just transition to a clean energy economy that nurtures healthy and sustainable communities and ecosystems.

Food & Trees for Africa

The Food & Trees for Africa vision is one where everyone has access to good, clean, naturally grown food that promotes health and happiness. A society made up of communities where our ecosystems are preserved and an urban balance of biodiversity is restored through tree planting. This is a world where the people of Southern Africa are provided a sustainable livelihood that does not negatively affect the environment. We see a sustainable future that provides for everyone, as the effects of man-made climate change are halted and reversed. Our vision works toward a point in time where people are educated, understand, and respect the link between the environment, themselves and their prosperity.

Solutions to climate change do not only come from research centers and laboratories but also through innovation by the people most affected.
