Khayakazi Madlala

Khayakazi Madlala hails from Matatiele in the Eastern Cape, where her love for singing began at a young age under the guidance of her brother, Sindani Gecelo. She honed her talent through school choir competitions and was part of the winning ensemble at the SASCE competition in 2012 while attending Mariazell High School.

Her talent was further nurtured by her choir conductor, Mr. Xolani "Fraser" Gqasana, from the Voices of the Nation.

In 2015, Khayakazi joined the Gauteng Opera ad hoc chorus, performing in various smaller ensembles and chorus works such as La Traviata and L’elisir d’Amore. She also portrayed Evelyn in Madiba the Opera, composed by Mr. Sibusiso Njeza.

Khayakazi began formal training at the Gauteng Opera Academy in 2016. By July 2017, she played Mimi in Gauteng Opera’s production of La Bohème at the Joburg Theatre and Durban Playhouse.

Khayakazi also participated in the Star For Life fundraising concert in Sweden and performed at the I Grandi Tenore Durban Potpourri and the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra (KZNPO) Spring Season Concert at the Durban Playhouse in 2017.

She was among the artists featured at Johannesburg Opera's inaugural concert and competed in the Online Voices of South Africa International Singing Competition, earning two awards: the Audience Prize and the Andrea Catzel Prize.

Currently, Khayakazi studies with Conroy Cupido at North West University, continuing her journey of artistic growth and excellence.
