Brenda Thulo

Brenda Thulo, a soprano and music teacher, was born in Sebokeng, South Africa. Her musical journey began at age 10 when she joined her primary school choir. She later matriculated at Thuto Tiro Comprehensive School, where she was introduced to opera through the Tirisano Schools Choral Eisteddfod (now SASCE).

In 2005, Brenda enrolled at the Tshwane University of Technology to study Vocal Art under Mrs. Charlotte Mangani’s guidance, earning her BTech Degree in Vocal Art (Performance). During her studies, she participated in numerous opera productions.

In 2011, she joined Opera Africa as a studio member, performing roles such as Barbarina in Mozart’s Le Nozze di Figaro and singing in productions like Bizet’s Carmen and Mozart’s Mass in C Minor as a chorus member. In 2012, she became a soloist with The Black Tie Ensemble, performing in various productions.

Brenda has also appeared in The Fairy Queen, a Baroque opera by Henry Purcell, where she portrayed Hermia with Umculo Productions. She is a member of Gauteng Choristers, touring Europe and recording two DVDs as a soloist with the ensemble.
