This World Environment Day, 5 June 2019, countless people around the globe are stepping up to #BeatAirPollution, an every day struggle for the Lephalale community.

In a small town in Limpopo, South Africa, a community finds themselves surrounded by coal-fired power plants. At night, the air smells of rotten eggs from all the sulphur, and during the day a thick black cloud smudges out the horizon.

So what is it like to live in a coal-affected community? Community organisations Waterberg Environmental Justice Forum, the Lephalale Community Justice Movement, and the Waterberg Women Advocacy Organization come together to share their story.
