Despite the chilly weather, the turnout was enormous with 1,009 people attending from around 30 different countries! Former US Vice President Al Gore inspired the participants with his presentations on the reality and science of climate change. Several Climate Reality Leaders also shared motivational stories of how they take climate action. Watch here Al Gore speak with four of these climate activists.

“I was really excited by the number of Africans who attended the training”, Gill said. People from Morocco, Tunisia, Madagascar, Uganda and Nigeria were trained to turn their passion into climate action. “We welcome them to our Climate Reality ‘family’ in Africa”, she added.

“Many attendees from the USA expressed concern about the new Trump administration”,  she recalls. “While there is no quick answer to the problems being created by President Trump, it does mean that all of us need to work harder to change the world we live in for the better.”

On the 5th of March, the new Climate Leaders were given the opportunity to learn how to carry out Acts of Leadership. The ACRP will share some of the tips they were given with all Climate Leaders on the continent to inspire increased engagement to  educate the public about the climate crisis and serve as instruments for change.

The Denver training also allowed Climate Reality Branch Managers from around the world to meet and learn from one another how to better support the Climate Leaders in their region. This provided valuable ideas as to the kind of work that can be done in Africa to increase our impact as climate activists.
