Driven by her passion for teaching people how to grow food in a sustainable way, Tarryn Rice has been working in the Urban Food Gardening field in Cape Town, South Africa, for the last 5 years. The multi-skilled project manager and permaculture specialist is involved in a wealth of projects and small businesses all revolving around sustainable urban farming and greening.

Tarryn has been working with a number of NGO’s involved in training people about setting up sustainable food garden systems. This includes facilitating a weekly children’s garden training programme with Food Basket for Africa; serving as a facilitator for Food & Trees for Africa (FTFA)’s  EduPlant programme in the Western Cape; and managing operations for the Spring Foundation’s Lentegeur Market Garden, where she works with psychiatric patients to develop a market garden. At Oude Molen Food Garden Village, She also grows vegetables following permaculture methods and runs a children’s programme where she teaches children how to grow food in a sustainable way. She also facilitates a variety of gardening courses through CTFoodGardens, an online community of passionate food gardeners like her.

Tarryn founded 2 ventures, Wall Gardens and OwnGrown, that enable her to advance organic and sustainable solutions to home gardening.

Trained as a Climate Reality Leader in Johannesburg in 2014, She puts her sustainable farming skills and never-tiring enthusiasm at the service of promoting urban greening and agricultural practices that are both climate friendly and resilient.
